Background of the Study

Effective pain management is a critical component of patient care, significantly influencing recovery outcomes and overall patient satisfaction. Nurses play a pivotal role in assessing pain, administering analgesics, and implementing non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate discomfort. Patient satisfaction with pain management is not only a measure of care quality but also impacts patients' trust in healthcare providers and adherence to treatment plans.

In healthcare settings like the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina, understanding patient satisfaction with pain management interventions can inform strategies to enhance care delivery. Studies have indicated that nurse-led pain management programs can improve patient satisfaction and perceptions of staff responsiveness.

Statement of the Problem

Despite advancements in pain management, patients often report inadequate pain relief during hospitalization. Factors contributing to this issue may include insufficient pain assessment, delayed administration of analgesics, and limited use of alternative pain relief methods. At FMC Katsina, there is a need to evaluate how effectively nurses manage patient pain and the level of patient satisfaction with these interventions. Identifying gaps in pain management practices is essential for improving patient outcomes and care quality.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess patient satisfaction with pain management interventions provided by nurses at FMC Katsina.

2. To identify factors influencing patient satisfaction with nursing pain management.

3. To recommend strategies for enhancing pain management practices among nurses.

Research Questions

1. What is the level of patient satisfaction with pain management interventions provided by nurses at FMC Katsina?

2. What factors influence patient satisfaction with nursing pain management?

3. What strategies can be implemented to improve pain management practices among nurses?

Research Hypotheses

1. Patients at FMC Katsina are satisfied with the pain management interventions provided by nurses.

2. Factors such as timely pain assessment, effective communication, and nurse responsiveness significantly influence patient satisfaction with pain management.

3. Implementing targeted training programs for nurses will enhance pain management practices and patient satisfaction.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on inpatients at FMC Katsina, evaluating their satisfaction with pain management interventions administered by nurses. Limitations may include variations in individual pain thresholds, subjective perceptions of pain relief, and potential biases in patient responses.

Definitions of Terms
